Andong Jungang Sinsijang Market 안동중앙신시장
Andong · Downtown & Old Market · Shopping
A working neighborhood market where Andong residents buy vegetables, dried seafood, rice cakes and offerings for ancestral rites. Because the region keeps many ceremonies, stalls sell boiled octopus and salted mackerel in quantity. You may also spot Andong sikhye, a red, chili-and-ginger rice drink quite unlike the sweet version found elsewhere.
Alleys are narrow and the atmosphere is local rather than polished, with little English spoken. Small vendors may prefer cash. It is a nice spot to buy dried herbs, sesame or other light souvenirs.
Eating at the soup restaurant inside first, then walking the stalls, is the easiest way to enjoy it.
It adjoins the western side of the old market, about a five-minute walk from Jjimdak Alley. Public parking is available. (Show a driver: 안동중앙신시장)
