Gyeongpodae & Gyeongpo Lake Trail 경포대·경포호 둘레길
Gangneung · Gyeongpo & Chodang · Sights
A shallow coastal lagoon, separated from the sea by a sandbar, gives Gangneung its calmest scenery. Gyeongpodae is an old open-sided pavilion on a small rise above the water, where Joseon-era scholars came to write poems about the moon, and the legend says you can see five moons from here: one in the sky, one in the lake, one in the sea, one in your cup and one in your companion's eyes. Beyond the pavilion, a path circles the lake past reed beds, sculptures and a bird-watching bridge.
Cycling the loop is a pleasant, unhurried way to spend a morning.
Take a taxi from Gangneung Station (강릉역) for about 15 to 20 minutes, or a local bus to the Gyeongpodae stop. Rental bikes and parking are available around the lake.
