Gyeongpo Beach 경포해변
Gangneung · Gyeongpo & Chodang · Parks & nature
Gyeongpo is the beach most Koreans mean when they say they are heading to Gangneung. A wide band of pale sand runs along the shore, with a pine belt behind it and a row of restaurants and hotels set back from the water. Swimming is only allowed during the official summer season, but the beach is lively all year, with couples walking at dawn, street performers on warm evenings and families flying kites.
Lights along the promenade come on after dark, so a late stroll feels safe and pleasant. Convenience stores and cafes sit a few steps from the sand if you need a snack.
From Gangneung Station (강릉역) it is about a 20-minute taxi ride, or take a local bus toward Gyeongpo Beach. Public parking lots fill up quickly on summer weekends.
